LMS occupation

Against proposals to remove Oxford's former LMS rail station, a Grade II listed building, and cut down a line of trees, in order to build a six-lane junction and the Saïd Business School. The junction was claimed to be an essential part of the Oxford Transport Strategy, though years later it was replaced with a scheme similar to those proposed by objectors. Homeless people joined road protestors to live in the building, there were public open days, raves, and the facade was repainted in LMS colours maroon & cream. The eviction in September took 48 hours due to one person locked on in a tunnel. The building was dismantled and re-erected at Quainton railway museum. Trees were all cut down apart from two horse chestnuts near the railway which were occupied until evicted while unguarded on 29 Dec 1998
