East Oxford Games Hall

The abandoned Games Hall in Collins Street was occupied in protest at lack of community space and used for badminton, capoeira, talks, discussions, free food and DJs, &c.

Fox & Hounds social centre

The former Fox & Hounds pub in the Abingdon Road was squatted to use as a social centre. It was immediatrly announced online and the same night police came and vigourously evicted everyone. Probably an illegal eviction but they can often get away with it

Iffley Open House for the homeless

Former garage owned by Wadham College occupied to provide winter shelter for Oxford's homeless, who ran it themselves, drugs and alcohol banned, there were also plenty of volunteers. Evicted on 27 Feb 2017 it moved to Osney Power Station, owned by the Said Business School, till eviction on 13 Mar 2017. Then moved briefly to Summertown and to the Cowley Road. Council officials were surprised by the high success rate of finding jobs and housing for the homeless.

This occupation was just for a weekend conference but the University (then the landlords) got very upset about it and the conference agreed to leave

Oxford Naked Bike Ride

Part of the annual World Naked Bike Ride which has happened each year since 2004 in cities all over the world, this was probably the first such event in Oxford, and quite a few who had gladly cycled naked round London were too shy to do the same in the city where they lived and worked. But some came to Oxford from elsewhere and abou 50 biked naked round Oxford

Reclaim love

Copying a long standing Valentines Day event in London, Reclaim Love was a mini festival held on the green space in the middle of the Plain roundabout in Oxford, and took place again in 2014 and 2016. In 2015 there were free hugs and soup in Bonn Square

Oxford Brookes camp

Students protested on the front lawn of the campus, calling on the university to prioritise bursaries over fee waivers for student support. The camp stayed there till 19 May 2012 and packed up voluntarily

Examination Schools occupation

In protest against top-up fees about 60 students occupied the Exam Schools at 4.30pm, there were 100 there by midnight, Tony Benn visited in solidarity, and the following day they decided to end the occupation with a march to the University Offices
